Track SEO progress with the Rank Tracker's trend chart and per-keyword history, the saved Site Audit list (score and issue count per run), scheduled audits, and real Search Console click data on the project Intelligence page.
A single rank check or site audit is a snapshot. Progress lives in the history: how positions trend, how audit scores move between runs, and whether real search traffic is holding its baseline. This guide covers where NitroShock records history and how to use each surface to measure improvement.
The Rank Tracker keeps every check it runs, so several views show movement out of the box:
Position trend chart. At the top of the Rank Tracker, the chart plots average position over 30d, 60d, 90d, 1y, or All time (the axis is inverted, so up means better). Switch to vs Comp to overlay your tracked competitors and see whether you're gaining ground or just moving with the SERP.
Prev and Diff columns. Every keyword row shows its previous position and the change since the last check, including NEW (first time ranking) and LOST (dropped out of the top 100).
Per-keyword history. The chart icon on any keyword row opens its full position history, with best and worst positions and a position-over-time chart with its own date ranges. This is where you check when a drop actually started.
Page-level status. The Pages sub-tab rolls keywords up by ranking URL and labels each page Growing, Stable, Declining, or New based on its movement between the last two checks. Filtering to Declining after each tracking cycle is the fastest routine for catching problems early.
How much history you accumulate depends on tracking frequency: daily keywords build a fine-grained curve, monthly keywords one point per month. See Tracking Frequency Options.
Every audit you run is saved. The audit list in the Site Audit tab shows each run with its date, type (site or page), overall score (0-100), and issue count, so improvement between runs is visible at a glance.
For any past audit you can:
Viewing stored audits is free; only running a new audit uses credits.
To measure progress, compare the score and issue count of your latest run against earlier runs, and open both reports when you need to confirm a specific issue type was resolved. A score that drops after a site update, plugin change, or migration tells you exactly when to look for the cause.
Trend data is only as good as its cadence. Use Schedule Audits in the Site Audit tab to run audits automatically - daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly on the day you choose - so every period gets a comparable data point without anyone remembering to click. Details in Scheduling Regular Audits.
Rankings and audit scores are leading indicators; clicks are the outcome. Connect Google Search Console on your project's Intelligence page and NitroShock tracks your actual clicks and impressions, learns what normal looks like for your project, and flags significant drops in visibility so a regression surfaces as a signal instead of hiding in a spreadsheet.
When you need to show the work: export or email any stored audit report directly from the audit list, and use the project's Reports tab to generate branded PDF reports on a schedule for clients or stakeholders. Report branding and scheduling have their own docs under Reporting.
Match the cadence to the rate of change. A site under active optimization warrants daily keyword tracking and weekly audits; a stable site does fine with weekly keywords and monthly audits.
Compare against your own baseline. Your first audit score and first weeks of position data are the reference. Progress is your trend, not an arbitrary target number.
Investigate declines with the other tabs. When keywords or pages decline, check the latest Site Audit for technical causes and the Competitors tab for who moved into the positions you lost.
Write down what worked. When a fix visibly moves the trend chart or the audit score, note what you did and when - the history gives you the dates for free.
Does viewing history cost credits?
No. Opening past audits, the trend chart, and keyword history is free. Credits are spent only when a new check or audit runs.
Can I compare two audits side by side?
There's no dedicated comparison view. Open the two reports (or export their PDFs) and compare scores and issue counts. The audit list gives you the score-over-time picture directly.
Why does my trend chart look flat?
Average position across many keywords moves slowly. Check individual keyword histories and the Pages sub-tab for movement the average hides.
How do I get more data points?
Increase tracking frequency on the keywords that matter (each check costs 0.5 credits per keyword) and put audits on a schedule.
