Link Gap Analysis

Find every site linking to your competitors but not to you, sorted by how you would earn the link.

A link gap analysis lists every site that links to your competitors and not to you. Enter your domain and up to five competitors, and each gap domain comes back sorted by how you would earn the link, with the best targets at the top.

Enter the domain exactly as the site is served. A subdomain (blog.example.com) analyses only that subdomain.

Credits are charged only when the analysis returns gap domains. Running the same analysis again within an hour shows the saved result at no charge.

What You Get

For each competitor, the tool pulls the domains linking to it and removes every domain that already links to you. What remains is merged into one list. Each row shows which competitors that domain links to, the page the link sits on, its anchor text, whether it is followed, and when it was last seen.

Every row is given one acquisition type: directory or listing, resource page, relationship, guest post, editorial, forum, or likely spam. Each type comes with the action that fits it, because a directory listing and an editorial mention are won in completely different ways. Spam is hidden by default and scored with the same toxicity rules as the rest of the platform.

A priority score from 0 to 100 orders the list. It weighs how many of your competitors a domain links to, its authority next to yours, how attainable its link type is, whether the link is followed, and whether it is still live. Filters narrow by type, overlap, authority and follow status. A text search finds the pages worth a first look, such as anything with "resources" or "tools" in the URL. The filtered view exports to CSV.

Reading the Output

Sample output, one domain against three competitors
PRIORITY DOMAIN TYPE LINKS TO LINKING PAGE
   92 cityguide.example Directory 1 2 3 /listings/rival-a
   87 tradeassoc.example Relationship 1 2 /members/
   81 craftblog.example Editorial 1 3 /2026/05/best-tools-roundup
   74 suppliers.example Resource page 2 /useful-links
    5 linkfarm.example Likely spam 1 2 3 /page-4bcf8b88.html

Read the top three rows first. A directory that lists all three competitors will almost certainly list you too, and all it usually takes is a submission form. An association that two competitors belong to is a membership decision, not an outreach email. The roundup post is harder: it links to the best tools the writer knows about, so the pitch has to be a better tool or a fresher angle.

The bottom row is why spam stays hidden. A domain linking to every competitor looks like the best opportunity on the list until you notice that it links to everyone.

Why Overlap Matters Most

A site that links to one competitor might have a personal reason. A site that links to three of them has shown that it links to businesses like yours, and it is missing only you. That is the single strongest signal in a link gap analysis, which is why overlap carries the most weight in the score.

Authority matters, but it is measured against your own site rather than on an absolute scale. A small regional directory is a strong link for a local business and a weak one for a national brand, and the score reflects that.

Track It in a Project

Run it inside a project and it becomes a working list rather than a snapshot. Every run is saved, and past runs open again at no charge. Each domain keeps a status (target, contacted, won, skip), notes and your corrections to its type from one run to the next.

Refreshing marks domains that are new since the last run. It also moves domains that now link to you onto a Won list, checked against your actual links rather than assumed. A monthly or quarterly schedule can refresh it for you. An optional email tells you when a competitor starts building links quickly, and the top opportunities appear in the white-label backlinks report.

What It Will Not Do

It finds the targets and ranks them. It does not find contact details, send outreach or acquire links for you. Every link gap tool works from its own crawl of the web, and none of them sees every link. Treat the list as a strong starting point, then open the linking page before you pitch anyone.

Questions

How many competitors should I compare against?
Three to five real competitors, meaning sites going after the same customers, not the biggest names in your industry. Giant platforms link to everything and add noise.

What if I do not know my competitors?
Tick "Find competitors for me" and the tool finds the sites competing with yours for organic keywords in your country, for a separate small charge. You review the list before the analysis runs.

Why do some rows show no linking page?
The domain links to a competitor, but its specific page was not returned by the index for that run. The row still counts and can be opened in the backlink checker.

What does it cost?
It runs on credits, charged only when the analysis finds gap domains. The price scales with the number of competitors and is shown on the button before you run. Running the same analysis again within an hour shows the saved result at no charge.

Start with the competitors you already lose to. The first ten rows of their gap list are usually the link plan for the next quarter.
