Quick Answer

Discover which keywords drive traffic to competitors and identify gaps where you can outrank them or target overlooked opportunities.

Understanding which keywords your competitors rank for - and where you can outrank them - is one of the most effective ways to grow organic traffic. In NitroShock you do this with three connected tools: the Competitors tab, the Rank Tracker's competitor columns, and the Prospects gap scanner.

Tracking Competitor Positions

First, add the competitors you want to watch on the Competitors tab (up to 5 per project). Once added, they appear automatically in your Rank Tracker as Competitor 1-5 columns: for every keyword you track, you'll see each competitor's position right next to yours, so you can spot where they're ahead at a glance.

Finding Keywords You're Missing

Your tracked keywords are only part of the picture - competitors rank for terms you may not have considered. Use the Prospects tab to find them:

  1. Open Prospects and click Scan.
  2. Select which competitors to scan (the cost is shown before you scan).
  3. Review the results, which group into Keyword gaps (they rank, you don't), Content gaps (you both rank but they outrank you), and AIO gaps (an AI Overview appears and neither of you is cited).

Each row shows the keyword, gap type, intent, search volume, difficulty (KD), CPC, the competitor's position, your position, and an opportunity score.

Prioritizing Opportunities

Sort by Opportunity to surface the best targets, and use the filters - intent, KD range, volume range, competitor, and SERP feature - to focus. Lower difficulty plus solid volume and aligned intent makes the strongest candidate.

Taking Action

From any prospect's actions menu you can act without leaving the tab:

  • Track - add the keyword to your Rank Tracker (free)
  • Brief or Outline - generate a content plan for it
  • Create or Optimize - draft a new article or improve an existing page with the Content Writer
  • Dismiss - hide prospects you don't intend to pursue (free)

Next Steps

  • Compare whole domains on the Competitors tab (traffic, keywords, backlinks, traffic value).
  • Research new terms with the Keyword Research tab before adding them to tracking.
